Family Games in the Garden at 10:30 am on Thursdays at McLaughlin Garden

Picture of cute animal character that is one of the mascots for the Summer Reading Program, along the dates of Thursdays in July and August where families can join in fun Games in the Garden, with descriptions of each event, and a box around one special event on August 7 where families will get to meet local artist and illustrator Maggie Templeton Rose and talk and participate in an activity she will lead that highlights the importance of dark skies to our ecosystems.

July 10: Within the Whale

Experience the thrill of stepping inside a life-size, inflatable humpback whale named Chunk!

July 24: Outside ME with Jennifer Comeau

Jennifer’s book, The Inside of ME, explores special places in Maine! What better place than McLaughlin Garden to see how good being outside feels?

July 31: Forcefield for Good with Barry Lane

In his interactive concerts, Barry teaches The Power of Kindness using music and songs that encourage kids to be their higher selves and weave together a force field for good.

PLUS one Special Evening Program at 6:00 pm to experience the garden at night!

August 7: If You Can See in the Dark with Mattie Rose Templeton

Mattie is an artist living in western Maine. Come early, bring a blanket, and enjoy a picnic supper in the garden. At 6:00, Mattie will read If You Can See in the Dark, a book she illustrated, and then we’ll do a pen and ink activity while the sun goes down and the sky darkens.
