SUMMARY:Find Your Joy during National Library Week
DESCRIPTION:National Library Week at Norway Memorial Library \nThe American Library Association’s (ALA) National Library Week theme for 2026 is “Find Your Joy.” The theme is based on a new book by Mychal Threets\, “I’m So Happy You’re Here: A Celebration of Library Joy.” Threets is an award-winning librarian\, new host of the children’s program “Reading Rainbow\,” and honorary chair of ALA’s National Library Week\, April 19-25\, 2026. The week celebrates the essential role libraries and library professionals play in community life. \nNorway Memorial Library has planned the following activities: \nOn Tuesday\, April 21\, add to the community joy board by adding a note\, a drawing\, or responding to a prompt such as “a small thing that makes my day better is…”\, “I feel happiest when…”\, or “I find joy at the library when…” The joy board and supplies to add to it will be available beginning Monday\, April 13. \nOn Wednesday\, April 22\, Library Outreach Day\, the public is invited to take a break in the library. From 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.\, coffee and cookies will be available. \nThursday\, April 23\, is Library Advocacy Day. Learn about how you can be an advocate for libraries. One of the best ways to advocate for libraries is to get a library card. \nOn Friday\, April 24\, the library will hold a “Find your (Almond) Joy in the Library” scavenger hunt. To participate\, library visitors will choose a slip of paper with the location of a library item on it. They will find the corresponding item\, remove the note they find inside\, and bring it to the information desk\, where they will receive a sweet treat. The scavenger hunt will continue while supplies last. \nFirst observed in 1958\, National Library Week is an annual observance by the American Library Association and libraries across the country each April. \nNorway Memorial Library is at 258 Main Street\, Norway\, Maine. For more information\, call 207-743-5309\, ask at the information desk.

SUMMARY:Pontine Theater's production of "The Flat Iron Lot" by Alice Brown
DESCRIPTION:Thursday\, May 7\, 2026\, 6:30 pm\, with doors opening at 6:00 pm \n“The Flat Iron Lot” \nPontine Theatre’s spring 2026 production of Alice Brown’s short story \nThe Friends of Norway Memorial Library will host the Pontine Theatre for their spring 2026 production of Alice Brown’s short story “The Flat Iron Lot” at Norway Memorial Library on Thursday\, May 7\, 2026\, at 6:30 pm\, with doors opening at 6:00 pm.  The library is located at 258 Main St.\, in Norway\, ME. This event is free to attend\, though donations to the Friends of the library are welcome. \nPontine Theatre is located in Portsmouth\, New Hampshire. Co-Artistic Directors and performers Marguerite Mathews and Greg Gathers\, search out rich\, historical literary gems and bring them to life for audiences throughout the region. Their shows often feature antique stage techniques\, including rolling panoramas\, puppetry\, and toy theatre figures. Mr. Gathers creates all the props and sets used in the theatre’s productions. \n“The Flat Iron Lot” was written by Alice Brown in 1899. Set in the fictional town of Tiverton\, NH\, it chronicles a rural New England community’s celebration of its 250th birthday. With fits and starts\, contention and compromise\, the residents organize historical reenactments\, a grand parade\, and speeches from civic leaders and the town’s beloved\, unofficial historian. In the end\, the townspeople enjoy a reinvigorated sense of civic pride and appreciation for their shared heritage. The story is an apt microcosm of the ambitions\, struggles\, and ideals of our national observance of the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. \nThe Friends of Norway Memorial Library is a membership organization with a volunteer board of directors raising funds through membership fees\, used book sales\, and other efforts to enhance library programs and services. To join the Friends of Norway Memorial Library\, complete a membership form at the library. To learn more about serving on the Friends of NML board of directors\, speak with Beth Kane\, Norway Memorial Library director. \nFor more information\, call 207-743-5309 or visit www.norwaymemoriallibrary.org. \n

SUMMARY:Dr. Shanee A. Stephakoff presents "Dreams Decoded: Bridging Ancient Wisdom and Contemporary Insights"
DESCRIPTION:Please join Dr. Shanee A. Stepakoff as she presents Dreams Decoded: Bridging Ancient Wisdom and Contemporary Insights \nThursday\, May 14\, 2026\, 6:30 pm at Norway Memorial Library \nDr. Shanee A. Stepakoff is a professional dream interpreter\, a licensed clinical psychologist\, writer/poet\, registered biblio/poetry therapist\, summa cum laude graduate of the University of Maine at Farmington (BA\, 2020)\, and currently a PhD candidate in literature at the University of Rhode Island. She will present a variety of dream interpretation methods used in ancient civilizations\, including those from Mesopotamia\, ancient Egypt\, ancient Greece\, and China. She will then describe a range of contemporary methods for working with dreams in psychotherapy\, which she has used in her psychotherapy practice. These methods are primarily informed by Jungian theory\, but also draw upon a few ideas from Freud – some that she considers obsolete and others that she believes remain valid. Next\, she will discuss some commonalities and resonances between the approaches derived from ancient wisdom and those used in psychotherapy. She will then invite questions and discussion. The aim is to deepen and enrich our understanding of dreams and to explore some ways that working with dreams can improve our daily lives. \nNorway Memorial Library is located at 258 Main Street\, Norway\, Maine.
