The Land Looks After Us: Wabanaki History and Healing
For thousands of years, the indigenous Wabanaki peoples of Maine lived, dwelt, and communed with these lands. Over the past 500 years, through disease, war, and colonial policies determined to eradicate their way of life, the Wabanaki population and culture dwindled. Now, thanks to many resilient and creative individuals, the Wabanaki peoples of Maine have reformed their historical Confederacy, and are experiencing a cultural resurgence.
What would the restoration of Maine’s Wabanaki peoples mean to the wider community?
How can we challenge preconceptions around the notions of “myth” and “history?”
How can we contribute toward the goal of healing and reconciliation for all peoples?
This event will be held at the Norway Memorial Library on Thursday, October 6, 2022 from 6:30 pm-8:00 pm. Jason Alexander Gutekunst, MA, BA, will present.
