Job Title: Teen Services Coordinator
Position: Associate – Teen Services, part-time
Qualifications: Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Library Science or related field, computer literacy, at least two years experience working with teens (middle school and/or high school), knowledge of popular culture and teen literature, willingness to pursue training and development in library science.
Reports to: Library Director
Supervises: Teen Volunteers
Job Goal: To develop and maintain a teen program that supports the mission of the Norway Memorial Library, advances the particular needs of teens, fosters a lifelong interest in reading and learning, and provides a positive library experience.
Roles:
- Administrative
- Develops goals for maintaining a teen services program in collaboration with the library director
- Maintains a welcoming space where teens can gather, work, and read
- Handles library correspondence relating to teen services.
- Prepares written monthly and reports of teen services activity
- Keeps permanent records of the teen services activities, statistics, surveys, and maintains a scrapbook of teen services activities
- Collections
- Works in collaboration with library director and according to
the collection policy to develop and maintain a teen collection that meets the unique informational, educational and recreational needs of teens
- Uses formal and informal means to assess teen reading interests and use of the collection
- Promotes the collection through the creation of displays and book lists, book talks, websites, social media, etc.
- Arranges the collection for best access and use by teen patrons
- Programs
- Develops teen services program goals in collaboration with the library director
- Develops and oversees an annual summer reading program for teens in collaboration with the library director
- Recruits and involves teen volunteers in library programs
- Develops awareness of project-based funding opportunities as needed
- Assesses and evaluates programs and provides written reports.
- Promotes programs to middle and high school, home-school, and private school students.

- Helps teens locate the best resources for their interests through materials, online, and in the community
- Models a process of inquiry
- Engages teens at their level of interest
- Models the use of Readers’ Advisory tools to expand awareness of reading choices
- Technology
- Provides content for teens on NML website and social media
- Keeps informed of new developments in computer technology and library services for teen patrons
- Uses Microsoft Office/Word/Publisher/Excel effectively
- Customer Service
- Understands the particular needs of teen patrons and interacts with them in a sincere and courteous manner
- Uses excellent communication (expressive and receptive) skills with patrons
- Maintains a friendly, positive attitude with all patrons at all times
- Public Relations/Advocacy
- Cooperates and collaborates with other community agencies serving teens in developing programs and/or services
- Maintains a list of agencies serving teens in the community
- Develops and implements a publicity plan for the year in collaboration with the Library Director that informs teens, area schools and the community about teen library services
- Prepares materials to publicize teen services and programs
- Professional Development
- Keeps informed of teen books and trends in publishing.
- Attends teen/youth services statewide workshops and meetings as available
- Participates in continuing education and professional development activities
