Threads of Tradition: A Journey Through Japan’s Textile Heritage with Mary DeLano

April 11 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm

Thursday, April 11, 2024
6:30 PM – 8:00 PM
Norway Memorial Library
258 Main Street, Norway
207-743-5309 Ext. 1
Did you know that before Toyota made cars it made industrial looms for weaving fabric and still does so today? Japan has a rich textile history that Mary was able to scratch the surface of during a recent three week trip focusing on textiles. Come hear about Mary’s adventures, see her photos, touch the vintage textiles she collected, and learn about the traditional textile art of Shibori.
Fiber artist Mary DeLano enjoys exploring natural dyes and eco printing. She has traveled to Japan twice to study Shibori resist techniques and loves to share her learning with others. Mary teaches at many venues in New England, including at the McLaughlin Garden and the Shaker Village. When she isn’t creating with textiles in her home studio, Mary serves on the Library Board and volunteers in a local Head Start classroom.
