Norway Memorial Library and the Norway Historical Society present Reg Dinsmore: Norway’s Outdoor Adventure Writer on Thursday, July 21, 2022, at 7:00 pm at Norway Memorial Library.
Regnall S. Dinsmore was born and educated and spent most of his life in Norway, Maine, as a carpenter and writer. He wrote in a log cabin on the eastern shore of Pennesseewassee Lake on land that has been in the same family since 1839. In the 1920-30s, he published over 100 short stories in Top-Notch Magazine, a popular pulp magazine of the time. They were stories of hunting, fishing, and trapping in Western and Northern Maine and usually included a Maine Guide and a favored dog.
Ben Tucker and Chris Van Curan will host this event. Chris is Reg’s grandson. He has collected and re-published some of his grandfather’s stories in Top-Notch Stories. The book will be available for purchase at this event. Proceeds from sales will go to the Norway Historical Society and the Norway Memorial Library.
Ben Tucker, whose grandfather was a close fishing and hunting partner of Reg’s, will read a selection from Top-Notch Stories. Attendees will see some original Top-Notch Magazines and a small, lightweight canoe that Reg made to fish in remote ponds.
Norway Memorial Library is located at 258 Main Street in Norway, ME. For more information, contact the library at 207-743-5309.
