Road to Readers Retreat Discussion Project

February 15 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm

Norway Memorial Library is hosting a four-part series called Road to Readers Retreat to discuss There There by Tommy Orange and three other books by contemporary Indigenous writers. Discussions are at Norway Memorial Library, 258 Main Street in Norway, ME, every other Thursday at 6:30 pm between February 15 and March 28, 2024.

To register, stop by the library or call 207-743-5309 ext. 1. The first 20 registrants will receive a copy of Crooked Hallelujah by Kelli Jo Ford and a Readers Retreat sticker. Subsequent books are distributed at each discussion.

The schedule is as follows:
February 15, Crooked Hallelujah by Kelli Jo Ford
February 29, Earthdivers, Vol. 1: Kill Columbus by Stephen Graham Jones
March 14, Jonny Appleseed by Joshua Whitehead
March 28, There There by Tommy Orange

Discussion facilitator Duncan Whitmire is a writer, editor, and educator living in South Portland, Maine. His fiction and essays have appeared in publications like “Portland Monthly”, “McSweeney’s Internet Tendency”, and “Colorado Review.”

This program is a Maine Humanities Council initiative supported by the National Endowment for the Humanities and United We Stand.

Each spring, the Maine Humanities Council presents Readers Retreat (formerly Winter Weekend) that centers on a single text. There There by Tommy Orange is the 2024 featured book. Road to Readers Retreat is in response to past participants saying they get even more out of the Readers Retreat event when they have had a chance to talk about the book with others ahead of time.

Readers Retreat is on April 6, 2024, in Orono, online, or virtually from Scarborough and Lubec. Participants in this series are not required to attend Readers Retreat.
